I have written User Guides for both print and online help. When writing these types of documents, I always keep the goals of the User in mind. This means, keeping steps and instructions clear and concise; simplifying and clarifying concepts; adding graphics and illustrations to make it easier for users to understand the written instructions. As part of this process, I also focus on UX at the same time, noting places where slight changes in the interface making it easier for users to complete their tasks.
